A Bath of Colours - Renoir and Monet at the Grenouillère

13 May to 17 September 2023

The exhibition A Bath of Colours - Renoir and Monet at the Grenouillère of the Oskar Reinhart Collection 'Am Römerholz' reunites two iconic works of Early Impressionism for the first time: The collection's own painting La Grenouillère by Pierre-Auguste Renoir meets its counterpart by Claude Monet, which is now located at the National Gallery in London. Both works were created on spot in the summer of 1869 - at the Grenouillère, a popular bathing spot for Parisians. Here the two artists painted, side by side, atmospherically brilliant works that were to revolutionise the course of European art history. In addition to the unique opportunity to encounter these two paintings in direct dialogue, further international loans as well as historical documents complement the exquisite cabinet exhibition.
