Floor plan

The collection provides a concise survey of European art from the fourteenth century to the early twentieth in the form of some two hundred works displayed in intimate surroundings. This special artistic experience is enhanced not only by the private character of the ʻAm Römerholz̕  villa, with its picture gallery and gardens, but also by the striking presentation. In accordance with Oskar Reinhart's personal approach to art, the works are arranged not in strict chronological order, but so that various periods and styles interact with one another. The juxtapositions disclose surprising affinities and encourage visitors to engage with art in new and individual ways.
