France, Germany and Austria, 15th and 16th centuries
Chief among the earliest works in the collection are a late Gothic Annunciation by a German painter active in the Upper Rhine region and the Marriage Diptych of Dr Johannes Cuspinian and Anna Putsch by Lucas Cranach the Elder (1472-1553). The diptych is a masterwork of German Renaissance art and can be admired in the appropriate stylistic surroundings of the villa's Renaissance room.
