Of grandeur and grace - Maillol and Sintenis

18 May to 15 September 2024

The exhibition «Of Grandeur and Grace - Maillol and Sintenis» at the Oskar Reinhart Collection «Am Römerholz» brings together sculptures, prints and drawings by two influential artists at the beginning of the twentieth century.

The monumental figure «La Méditerranée» (1905-1907) in limestone by Aristide Maillol (1861-1944) is a masterpiece from the «Am Römerholz» collection. Supplemented by high-calibre international loans, the development and the impact of this pivotal sculpture will be shown.

The Berlin artist Renée Sintenis (1888-1965), highly esteemed by Maillol, created rather small-format and playful animal figures that were widely recognised and sought after in the 1920s and well into the early post-war period.

In this exhibition, the works of the two artists will be juxtaposed for the first time to show their similarities and differences.

The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue in German and French.
