Edited by Mariantonia Reinhard-Felice, Collection Oskar Reinhart ʻAm Römerholz ̓, for the Swiss Federal Office of Culture and in association with the Swiss Institute for Art Research, Basle, 2003 / 2005 English edition, Schwabe Verlag, Basel, 2005, ISBN 3-7965-2132-4 and Paul Holberton Publishing, London, 2005, ISBN 1-903470-38-1 German edition, Schwabe Verlag, Basel, 2003, ISBN 978-3-7965-1952-9

Expert analyses of works in the collection – in 207 catalogue entries in total – address not only iconography and style but also functions and historical contexts. Classical art-historical methods and new technical investigations complement each other and often lead to a revision of previous assessments. In numerous instances works have been reattributed, forgotten contexts have been reconstructed and hitherto disregarded aspects of the contents of certain works are seen in an entirely different light. This catalogue, which in itself sets new standards, presents the most searching and comprehensive account of the collection to date.
