The Netherlands, 15th to 17th century
Dutch and Flemish painting from the fifteenth to the seventeenth century is well represented in the collection. Highlights include The Adoration of the Magi in the Snow by Pieter Bruegel the Elder, an oil sketch produced by Peter Paul Rubens in connection with his cycle of paintings on the subject of Decius Mus and a landscape by Philips Koninck. Oskar Reinhart never succeeded in acquiring a fine late portrait by Rembrandt, his favourite artist of this period.
