This publication marked the second ‘dossier' exhibition at the Oskar Reinhart Collection ‘Am Römerholz'. The presentation explored the connections between Geertgen tot Sint Jans, the first great painter in the northern Netherlands, and a depiction of the Adoration of the Kings painted around 1495, which has been in the holdings of the Oskar Reinhart Collection since 1923 and which underwent thorough restoration for the purposes of this project. In-depth comparisons with paintings definitively attributed to Geertgen, and above all to other versions of the same subject by Geertgen, led the Winterthur Adoration to be attributed to an independent follower of Geertgen. "Venite, adoremus" thus set an important marker in the long-standing, heated controversy on the authorship of this much-debated work. At the same time it also presented an enthralling panorama of Early Netherlandish painting.
